maria sharapova: new no. 1

Back to back tennis entries for me...

This is for the tennis enthusiasts out there, now that Justine Henin retired and requested that she be removed out of the wta ranking, "The Golden Girl", Maria Sharapova is bound to be the next world no. 1. Sharapova is not new to the no. 1 ranking for she has been on top before. She first ascended at the number one spot during the year 2005. And since then she has spent a total of 15 weeks in the top spot.
A personal favorite of mine, Maria has the capabilities of being a top player. Her close to perfection beauty and physique make her one of the prettiest faces in the world of tennis. She has powerful ground strokes and strong flat services which really define her prowess, making her win 3 out of the four grand slam titles, missing only the French open trophy. So far she's having a good year, after suffering plagues of injury, she has recovered and now in good form.
Maria is also known for her trademark - "shrieks!!!" That loud loud shriek! She has been ultimately famous for it. Maria won't be maria if she's not shrieking and shouting.
At a very young age Maria has achieved a lot not only in the field of tennis but in her modeling career as well. I believe she earned more money with the nike commercial she did than what she has won in any tennis match. She also, i believe is an ambassador of some sort.
Truly Maria Sharapova is worthy of the world no. 1 ranking and she will be staying there for a long time, hopefully longer than henin.
I salute Maria. "Come on!"

Justin Henin retires

Now this is a shocker. At the age of 25, tennis star and current world no. 1 Justin Henin, decides to give up her career in tennis and retire. (www.wtatour.com)
Perhaps Justin Henin is one of the greatest female tennis players ever to walk earth. Known for her extra effective and lethal strokes, she has made a mark on tennis history. Her greatness and skills are shown in her countless trophies in the atp tour and in the grandslams, having 3 of 4 titles - only wimbledon is out of here hands. She has proven her worth and she is indeed the queen of clay!!! Her success will always be admired and her style will forever be unscathed.
I wish she didn't retire this soon. She still has an insurmountable amount of talent within her.. I'll surely miss henin..

Love and expectations: another quote reflection...

"i woke up fallen so deeply in love with the wrong person,
wrong time and wrong place
But then, one day, I've realized that
it's not the person, time nor place that's wrong...
But my expectations of a love story..

This was sent via sms by *prince ace*. Like my previous entry, i did make a reflection on a tagalog quote, now i'm doing it again.
Being a cheesy and mushy creature, quotes like this really hit me. As a result, i relate it to my own life.
I have had my own series of falling in love moments and as of now, nothing worked out. *sad puppy eyes*... Well, we never even got to where i wanted us to be. And that made me wonder about the things that were wrong.
Reading this quote made me conclude that maybe, just maybe, my expectations of my version of a love story may have been the reason why nothing worked out. I've come to realize that there was nothing wrong with the person i loved, with the time we were in love and even with the place we were in to. What i was thinking and expecting was the culprit. Expectations really could kill you and kill the love you have for another person.
I was too idealistic. I pictured love as a feeling or a state close to perfection. But i guess it's not. Falling in love was totally breath taking but getting hurt was the complete opposite. It's like breathing under water, impossible and difficult... I expected that the person i fell in love with would fall in love with me too. Turned out that i was the only one giving love and i received nothing. i expected that we were getting there but i assumed too much. We got ultimately close and i thought that this was the sign, but it turned out to be all wrong, all that happened were all under the bounds of friendship, nothing more nothing less. I failed to recognize my place in that person's life, and for that, I was left behind, left alone - aching..
I moved on eventually. (Hmmm, did i?) Now I live my own life, not under the shadow of the love i felt for that person before, but with the love i have for myself and the hope of finding my one true love. One thing's for sure, lessons were learned and i am stronger now. Now, what i have with me are not expectations but guidelines that are meant to aid my heart whenever it beats, whenever it falls, whenever it starts to love and whenever it starts to get hurt.

sports: roger federer, the king of tennis, still...

For some years, i have been really interested with tennis and i must say that i am a fan of the game and some players. Watching tennis games on tv has been a hobby of mine, even if my brother insists that it's totally boring. I have learned the game just by mere visuals and i have known a bit of everything too. What's great with this sport is that every match is unique because of the style of every player. Speaking of tennis players, there's this one who made me appreciate the craft of playing the game, one person who exemplifies the versatility of a great tennis player, one athlete who never fails to impress me when he's on the court, and that is, ROGER FEDERER, yes, the swiss player who has been on the top of the rankings for like a lifetime.hehe He has ruled the game with authority and for me he is the best player ever. Although he haven't won the french open yet, his success as a tennis player for this era is pretty difficult to match nor even get close to. With all the titles under his belt, he need not to prove his worth.

This year though, the world no. 1 is on a blur. he had consecutive loses and surprisingly, he only won one title so far,and that is the estoril open. He's missing something in his game, i don't know if its the drive to win or the confidence that he'll be able to win. I wonder why this is happening? For clay courts, i really understand that roger's having a difficult time especially if he's battling it out with nadal, but for hard courts, how could he lose?

However, the occurrence of the consecutive loses has not ousted him from the top spot. The last time nadal and federer faced was on the court of monte carlo i think, and as expected Nadal won. But i really admire Nadal for his humility and admiration for federer, he somewhat said that roger is still the no.1 in the world and even if he had a number of loses, the fact that he is still no. 1, makes him STILL the greatest player. Which i think is ultimately true, maybe roger started the tennis year quite unprepared but i'm sure he'll make up for it. I believe he'll win Roland Garros this year.. I wish him all the best.

a quote...some reflections..

last may 2, 2008 at around 8:40am, a friend of mine, Allan, sent me as sms, a quote, a tagalog quote, and it goes like this..

"kapag pinag-agawan ka, malamang maganda o gwapo ka. Sumama ka sa mabuti, hindi sa mabait. Sa marunong hindi sa matalino, sa mahal ka, hindi sa gusto ka."

I sent this to some other friends and to my surprise a lot of them sent back their reactions. Really, this quote is ironic and "matalinhaga". One friend of mine, Dey, said that this quote made her think what the difference of mabuti and mabait; marunong at matalino really is. Reflecting on what she said, i found myself, staring at an empty space and thinking, thinking ultimately hard. What does the quote exactly mean??? How do you differentiate similar terms??? well, I think it all depends on the usage and in the context of the reader.

For me, mabuti and mabait are different because the former describes someone who is good. Mabuti - meaning, someone who is genuinely good. The latter meanwhile, mabait, is another thing. Mabait - meaning, someone who is kind. Maybe in relationships, mabuti assumes the role of someone who encompasses the goodness and all the good qualities of a person worth loving. Someone who can be as sweet as an angel and as naughty as a demon.lol. Hey, don't get me wrong having someone "mabait" is also positive in a relationship, but if you go for someone mabait, i think the relationship will somewhat end up in a scenario where one party dominates and the other succumbs to what the dominant party wants.

Now we go to, marunong as opposed to matalino. definitely in my point of view, marunong is greatly different to matalino. Let's start by defining the two terms, marunong generally is the term used for people who are knowledgeable of what they want to do and ought to do in life in short "smart" or perhaps "witty". It's more of like being in control or being "madiskarte". Marunong people are those i think who succeed in life because they are in command of their actions. Contrary to marunong is matalino. Matalino simply is being "intelligent". This quality perhaps defines a person who is genetically born to master what the book says and what the teacher teaches. Being matalino doesn't always mean that your road to success will be a lot easier, yeah you have a clear advantage of knowing what others might not, but at the end of the day it's the execution point that matters. In love, same goes, i think.. Being matalino doesn't guarantee a good relationship, i think being marunong does. When you know how to run your life that means you're marunong, and if you know how to run a good relationship, that is responding to all that come your way, definitely it'll last long. Meanwhile, if you're matalino, surely it also will help, but no amount of reading nor lecture will teach you how to love and make a relationship work. Lovers don't need formulas and theories to learn love, spontaneity is what's needed, and the marunongs have that.

Perhaps this quote may serve as a guideline for hopeless romantics and loveless people like me, but i think it really points out important notes. Love someone whom you think will do you good in your relationship, that is someone who would love you for your positive characteristics and someone who would boldly confront you and eventually correct your negativities. Love someone whom you think has control of his/her life and a clear direction of what he/she wants to be not someone who is bound by what books tell. Love and look for someone who'd make a difference in your life and change you for the better, not someone who'd run your life for you. Love and look for someone who is mabuti and marunong, no more no less...

Allan, thanks for the quote, keep it coming..btw, get over you know who na, i'm sure someone better will arrive. tc.
