Well, it's really not new for me to see my sisterette join pageants and beauty searches. Win or lose, it has always been a pleasure watching her. However, this time, it proves otherwise.
My sisterette joined this nationwide youth pageant which supposedly aims to discover the next "youth role model". The next one to make a difference and represent the Filipino youth. But this ambition has been totally flawed, for today, this oh so prestigious pageant? (currently on it's 9th year and is organized by some known people) has unimaginably and atrociously gone too far from reason.
My apologies, but I think this pageant is by far the worst I have ever seen - from start to finish. Almost everything that has happened was a product of foolishness and idiocy. I should know because for four years I have been part of a group which organizes such so called pageants or beauty spectacles.
Time to begin ranting... (Eto ung mga palpak nila)
1. Where in the world have you seen any local pageant having 100 contestants?! Whatever happened to the principle of screening i do not know but i think that amount's too much!!! As if they match the skills of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities or Carousel Productions.
2. Majority of the candidates came from one managing agency. Hello, that's so inappropriate! They should have changed the pageant's name to "MR. YANKEE DOODLE'S PAGEANT" or "BEST IN YANKEE DOODLING" then.
3. The process of selection of the TOP 30 candidates - insufficient. Hey, gold is different from gold plated!!! The pre-pageant had no question and answer portion and no talent portion, they only flashed their looks in front of the judges once for a brief introduction of themselves. As in brief, stating the name and the city represented! viola instant top 30!
4. It has come to my knowledge that whoever sells/buys the most tickets will get an automatic slot in the top 30. Well, obviously, money makes the world go round. One candidate, according to blabberings at the backstage, bought almost 300 tickets. True enough she got into the top 30 even if she looked like one of Cinderella's step sisters with Thumbelina's height. What a waste of money. I just wish not all pageants are like this.
5. One segment of the pageant involves the candidates wearing clothes that were made from the cloth provided by the organizers. It's sort of a summery outfits category, but my my, to my great surprise, it turned to be a COSTUME PRESENTATION. Halloween came a bit too early. The winners for this segment were wearing deranged outfits. The male winner looked like a man from mars and the female winner resembled as a sunflowers bonsai in a flower pot (picture it nalang).
Come on, have ever heard the word "aesthetics", or to make it simple "beauty". A lot of them were overly dressed, super exag!
In the car, my aunt said, "Sana sinabi nila na gnun para dinala ko ung puno ng baliti sa atin tapos nagdala tayo ng kapre. Sigurado panalo ka!"
6. A pageant is of two parts, beauty and brains. Apparently, the latter has been compromised. The final segment was the Q&A portion and believe me it was dreadful. The questions were prepared by the contestants themselves. So what about it? Well, it just so happened that questions on how to prevent global warming were asked more than five time and questions about long-term relationships, twice. Paulit-ulit! Imagine the agony of hearing the same substandard answers over and over again. Grace under pressure was miles away.
There's this one candidate who made me go nuts. It's the first time I've walked out of a pageant. Ladies and Gentlemen get a hold of your seats...
Question: "What seeds will you plant in the youth today".
Answer: I would plant a NARRA TREE because it is strong....
and it went on!
OMG, WTF, lahat na ata ng ym lingo nagamit ko. Whew, that could even overtake Janina San Miguel's answer in Bb. Pilipinas!!! Super sponge-brained answer!
I'm sorry but almost everyone during the Q&A portion got a flushed down rating from me.
Haay, I spent the remainder of the evening outside the theater, waiting for the pageant to just end. If they could only end permanently, that would be better.
To the people behind this, feels like you only took advantage of the prestige brought about by organizing this project but clearly it shows that you lacked the capacity for this undertaking. You did not take full responsibility of it. You should've done more. Isn't 9 years of experience enough? My sisterette's only mistake is that she gave her full trust, thinking that this is a worthwhile endeavor.
For aspiring beauty titleists out there, I strongly discourage you from joining this pageant.
Btw, Happy mom's day to all the mothers out there!
