do it the BEDAN way...

No! I cannot not end the day without writing this!!!

what's my itinerary?

hmmm, nothing much i must say??? A championship game to watch and, if victorious, an after party to attend...

My stereotyped day didn't turn out the way i expected it to be though. As far as my thoughts take me, it is, obviously different, ultimately distinct.

Let me begin with my path towards the Big Dome for the most awaited championship match for NCAA's Men's Basketball between San Beda Red Lions v JRU Bombers.

Before proceeding to the game experience, i'd like to share this. On my short cruise inside the gateway mall i came across this emporium, and in it, are the bags i'd definitely love to own. Fancying on a lot of stylish bags, my deep brown eyes saw this big black leather bag! I was in total awe! The spotlight dedicated to that perfect piece seemed like a ray from heaven. It was the epitome of perfection. I rushed to it! Checking it out, feeling it's skin brush and glide through mine, I felt a sudden connection, the bag and I are related! (in some way. haha). The deep urge ran into my veins, telling my core that I need to get this bag! However, one sad fact, my piggy bank isn't prepared for this, and that's really hapless... btw, the bag is
P **,000, you just figure it out.
Hell!!! I'll get that soon, few months from now! I want it! I will have it!

Going back to the basketball game...

It is after all the third and final game of the championship round and i felt like there is an inherent need for me to catch it LIVE.

Today's Scenario: A sea of people wearing RED versus a river of people wearing YELLOW.

So how was it?

It was my first ever live experience of a basketball competition in Araneta, and to my luck, what i was about to see and what i saw is not just any game, it is THE game, the championship match.

Being a consistent skeptic, i really though i wouldn't find the aroma in this brew of coffee. Not until i was able to sniff the sweet scent of high grade coffee impeccably brought by the game and what has transpired.

Seating at a place most souls won't dare to go, the border between SBC and JRU, surely made scared. But with every point, which resulted into an insurmountable lead, the sense of fear slowly crept away. Indeed i was enjoying the game. It's really different to see it live. The cheer, the drums, the crowd, the spark of competition, the conflict between two teams, incredible! I remember hearing myself uttering these words as the play goes on, "Empathic, Ecstatic, Energetic". What's behind it, i dont know. I got carried away...

In the end, SBC won, placing a 15 point lead, untouched and unscathed. Like that's so given! It's like stating that Oprah is one of the most influential person in the world, if not the most, or Roger Federer being the greatest tennis player ever. You see, it's an absolute fact, even a six-year old wouldn't doubt that SBC will come out triumphant.

The team really did great! I take my hat off to their heartfelt and superb performance.

3PEAT! Beat that!!!

The After Party...

It's tradition that an instant celebratory party is to be held if SBC Red Lions Win NCAA.

And this year, being another "Bring home the Bacon" year, a party was indeed organized.

At first, I had no intention of confining myself to the asphalt covered street of Mendiola, to do partying! I thought it's weird! A big No, No, No way for me...

However, due to my friends' persistence, i ended up gracing the said event, in the most unusual sense of clothing one could possibly wear in such occasion. (my lips are sealed! don't even ask!)

Careless about what people might speculate of, i made my way through and just went with the flow. Good thing i have such wonderful friends, CEZ, KARLA, DIA, MHIK... You guys rock! I would've been crying my heart out if i wasn't able to witness and experience the Bedan victory party! Not a stir loser tonight!

So what's different about this partey!!!

That would be, "Everything"

It's a celebratory party for a basketball team, and coming from a university where not too many basketball trophies were won, i was bereft of such experience. it was evidently new to me.

What's the party like? Picture this...

Mendiola was closed, cars lodged and parked on both sides, then turned their trunks into instant bars with overflowing beer and the like, everywhere! No one was without the essence of joy!

The streets leak in alcohol! And I had my fair share. Even if i was drinking with some people i do not know, i still enjoyed it, for in it is the spirit of victory. Mutual and equally shared, through the cups of liquor of course.

People were flying everywhere, everyone was busy rounding every corner of Beda and Mendiola. They come and Go! I didn't know Beda had that much of a population. Fortunately, i met some new people.

Cameras flashing everywhere! Snapshots - a never ending sight! Speaking of pictures and snaps, we (karla, dia, cez and i) had this crazy idea of having our pictures taken with some of the Bedan players for some various reasons. All i know is that my reason is just to make my world funner! For karla, i'll just leave you with this, #16. For dia, it's #18. Click! Click! Click! Success!!! I'll get the pictures and post it soon... Now i know how an avid fan feels like. Some random guy even took pictures of me and dia when we were walking and asked us to pose some more. Whoa! it's not everyday you get to experience that.

A number of tys to the following: (we'd love to see the pics soon)

Dia and I had to cut out our party appearance short, but every millisecond was worth it. :)

This is perhaps, one of the highlights of my COL stint in San Beda College. I never knew that this would be super duper fun! And i can't wait for next year!

Tsk3, another reason for me to stay - for good.

Up until now, i feel the drum beats, i feel the cheer, i feel the rush, i feel the victory and i feel the glory.

With all things said and done, truly, life is different if you live it and DO it the BEDAN way.

Cheers to the good life!

ronli v. mosqui

in life, there are never ending battles. Battles you ought to face, whether you like it or not.

My life is no stranger to that, for it has lived through an unending saga, a bout that began since ever, repeating on a continuous cycle -

a fray between a man and a mosquito.

"Ronli vs. Mosqui"

The Battle of 09-19-2008

Armed with needle-sharp proboscis, mosqui stalked and flounced my every move.
then...
with impeccable timing and with his every might,
Mosqui attacked...
Not good enough though.

Equipped with my own set of arsenal, a pair of 8" hands and my secret weapon as reserve,
i countered...
Attempt failed.

Mosqui, agile as ever, was able to elude my attempt to sandwich him between my hands. But not for long, unleashing my secret weapon - an tennis racket like electric mosquito killer.

Will my secret weapon force Mosqui to give up the fight? Will he succumb?

Unaware of my plan, sneaky Mosqui, using stealth, managed to move closer... closer... and closer...
Three feet, Two, one.
Ready...
Swoooosh!!!

I successfully bashed Mosqui! FINALLY...
I was able to put an end to Mosqui's life.

The sound of Mosqui's entirety getting electrocuted sounds like Dulce singing "Ako ang Nagwagi!!! HAHAHAHA
Majestic and Triumphant!!!

For now, i was able to put an end to one Mosqui. A close to the life of a worthy adversary.

More of Mosqui's kind will come, that of which I'm sure.
Seeking revenge...
Preying...

But i am ready.

Bring it on.

(damn, i hate mosquitoes!!!)

up pep squad conquers araneta, one more time...

Sept. 7, 2008 UAAP Cheerdance 2008

well, well, well, the up pep squad once again took home the bacon!!!
Congrats!!!
This just goes to show that 397 years of "OTHERS" is no match to 100 years of pure and unscathed excellence.
hahaha.

Fresh, new and original, that's what up pep's known for...
and today, they reap the fruits of their labor!!!
Nothing but sheer brilliance!
Total winner... without a doubt...
Everything was spectacular!!! The concept, the energy, the attitude!
A champion!
Total dominance!!!

To the "once upon a time" majestic but now a runner-up squad, wake up and smell the coffee!!! repeating routines won't work anymore... We've seen that for like a gazillion times... :P

I would like to comment on the results though... In my opinion, feu had a good shot in winning, tough luck, the glitches in their routine made them deserving of the 2nd runner-up title. no contention about that.
Meanwhile, adamson should've been awarded the 1st runner-up title. cleanest routine. their stunts were ok, some were amazingly great.
un lang.

based on my ranking:("an opinion", magreact kayo if you want...)
1: UP (PERFECTION!!!)
2: AdU (whoa!!! you could do that pala?)
3: FEU (hats off to your synchro)
4: UST (i've seen everything before... winning? not this time!!!)
5: ADMU (i love the mascot!!! can i keep it?)
6: DLSU (i enjoyed sitting in dlsu side!!! haha)
7: NU (most improved squad, in all fairness)
8: UE (a total wreck...)

Enough of the cheer queer... May next year pa. i can't wait!!!

if today were an ice cream, my cherry on top would not be UP being declared as the winner and all, but it's the chance i had to spend time with one of the closest groups of people i know...

m-a-r-r-i-a-g-e

It's been a while since i last wrote an entry...

Here I go again...

Earlier today, I had this mini-test in one of my law subjects (persons and family relations). Supposedly, (as what most of us presumed), the coverage was the entire Family Code. However, only a 7-item mini-test was given which embraced a tiny bit of the whole - "marriage". Honestly, the test was relatively easy, but one question for me was highly controversial, and worthy of argumentation.

QUESTION: Who are capable of contracting a marriage? Can a person who had a sex transplant be capable of contracting marriage?

tick... tick... tick... *blank stare*
So far, nothing in the books i've read has supplied any answer to such a question.
This, being i test, i need to take a stand.

So what's it gonna be???

Ting!
Thus, my take on such case...

We begin with the definition of marriage. What is marriage? As stated in Article 1 of the Family Code of the Philippines, Marriage is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into life in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life. It is the foundation of the family and an inviolable social institution whose nature, consequences, and incidents are governed by law and not subject to stipulation, except that marriage settlements may fix the property relations during the marriage within the limits provided by this code.

Reiterating the provision, marriage is a contract, a union, between a MAN and a WOMAN.

In Article 2, as supplied, no marriage shall be valid, unless these ESSENTIAL requirements are present:

1. Legal Capacity of the contracting parties who must be a MALE and a FEMALE; and
2. consent freely given in the presence of the solemnizing officer.

Article 1 and 2 basically sums up the qualifications of individuals who may contract a marriage.

Now, the case to be dealt with talks about the capability of a couple to contract a marriage through a change of sex/gender, made possible by technological innovations, almost matching the power of the Supreme Being in creating the so-called MAN and WOMAN.

Clearly, the law of the Philippines does not allow same sex marriage. And the act of having a transplant perhaps is the only probable means by which same sex couples may take in order to live together and be in a union of marriage, legally.

I believe that once you've changed your sexuality and have undergone a transplant, you are deemed to be a person having a new sex, different from what you've had before. Thus, a man can eventually be a woman and vice versa.

Accomplishing such act achieves one end, that is, the same sex couple, now becomes a relationship of two different sexes, a union of a MAN and a WOMAN.

With that, their relationship can now be considered as one of having the right to contract a marriage, for it is vividly written in the law that the contracting parties must be a MALE and a FEMALE. The couple, although one has changed physical attributes, falls on that category and thereby such contract may be extended to them. They can validly and legally claim for a contract of marriage.

Many might and will contend that the grant of such right to similar cases would defeat the marriage law and its goals, but i think otherwise. Yes, marriage is geared towards the goal of the establishment of a conjugal and family life, but it is completely foolish to say that marriage can only be granted to those who are capable of multiplication of species. Resting on the idea that marriage is a form of offspring making or population building is absurd and insane. With that as a sole basis, we put other people in a disadvantageous position. What about the IMPOTENT, the HERMAPHRODITES, and THOSE WHO OPT TO NOT TO HAVE A CHILD? Yes, they possibly won't be able to contribute to such goal, but depriving them of the right of contracting a marriage would be highly unfair. What's essential is that they comply with the ESSENTIAL requisites, being a MAN and a WOMAN. Being able to give birth and reproduce is amazing, a spectacle, a gift, but to count it as a requirement for marriage? No way!!! it just can't be...

END...

There are lots of ways on how one person with legal knowledge may give judgment to such case, after all, people have different views and opinions. But, at the end of the day, it all boils down to how decisive you are in defending your stand, how willing you are to stick to what you believe in, and how strong your belief is. Argue your case and i'll argue mine.

=)
